8 Days Backpacking in Tokyo, Japan

Updated: Jul 19, 2020

  • Arrival to Haneda Airport International Terminal A

  • Traveled to Saitama from Haneda Airport - where we booked our Airbnb via the train for 300 to 600 yen/ 11 to 23 RM per head. I traveled with a friend and we will be meeting two friends on the 4th Day, who are traveling in Tokyo as well.

  • Booked Airbnb in Saitama, Japan for 12951 Yen / 500 RM - 45 mins from Tokyo (booked for Feb 4-6/ 3 nights)

Day 2

  • Harajuku tour -  where to shop, eat, and drink in Tokyo’s ‘kawaii’ capital. Harajuku, is a colorful street, with youth fashion, vintage clothing stores and cosplay shops along Takeshita Street.

  • Meiji Shrine – we spent the whole day roaming around Harajuku since this shrine is closed to Harajuku, we have visited it as well. We just used google map to find places. (free entrance)

  • Yoyogi park – another park near Harajuku and Shinjuku (free entrance)

Day 3

  • Visited Odaiba -  is a popular shopping and entertainment district on a man-made island in Tokyo Bay.

  • Spent Whole day in Odaiba (free entrance)

  • Visited Diver City Tokyo plaza - It was 2016 when I visited Tokyo so the old Gundam has been replaced by RX-0 Unicorn Gundam replica from the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

  • Visited Odaiba seaside park

  • Had a night view of the rainbow bridge tower

  • Visited Aqua city Odaiba

Day 4

  • Morning Visit Asakusa - one of the main sightseeing spots in Tokyo. There are many small little alleys with unique shops, and is particularly famous for Sensoji Temple

  • Don't miss to try their Karaoke Bar (we just tried to roam around Tokyo and we found a karaoke bar just along Tokyo forgot the name though but it was really fun and they have a lot of Tagalog songs for (550 Yen/21 RM for 2 Hours)

  • Visited Tokyo Skytree at night (free entrance)

Day 5

  • Visited Shinjuku - Shinjuku station is the world's busiest railway station, handling more than two million passengers every day. It is served by about a dozen railway and subway lines, including the JR Yamanote Line. Shinjuku is also one of Tokyo's major stops for long-distance highway buses.

  • Spent whole day sightseeing in Shinjuku - roamed around the city.

  • Booked in Asakusa Yadoya Hostel - We realized Saitama a bit farther as it will take us more than 45 mins to travel as it was very very cheap not too close to Tokyo. So was a good thing we didn’t book the whole week in Saitama so the last day we headed to Asakusa for hostel check-in.

Day 6

  • Visited Shibuya - is one of Tokyo's main hubs. It's a seething frenzy of shopping, dining, and drinking. This is where to come to experience Tokyo in all its glory.

  • Shibuya Crossing - It would be a shame to come to Tokyo and not take a walk across the famous intersection outside Shibuya Station. And the best time to go is 7 PM to 9 PM. This is when you wanted to do a time-lapse as its crowded, as for us we spent 4 hrs doing time-lapse or taking hyper-lapse or videoing with the crowded Shibuya crossing as this wouldn't be fun if it's not crowded.

  • Visited Hachiko - You can only find the famous dog Hachiko near the Shibuya crossing. Hachiko - was an Akita dog born on a farm near the city of Ōdate, Akita Prefecture, Japan. He is remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner, for whom he continued to wait for over nine years following his death.

Day 7

  • Back to Shinjuku - where we had our last night

  • We headed to Izakaya - is a type of informal Japanese pub. They are casual places for after-work drinking. They have been compared to Irish pubs, tapas bars, and early American saloons and taverns.

  • We spent a night in Izakaya - where we luckily made friends to Japanese guys who even paid our bill. hehe! One advantage that you really have to meet locals and make friends because you never know you will see them again.

Japanese Food

  • Japan is my favorite place to eat.

Day 8

Depart for Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Expenses

Roundtrip Ticker via Airasia

  • 1200 MYR/ 14,851.89 PHP

Airbnb in Saitama, Japan for 5 nights

  • 500 MYR / 6188.29 PHP (Shared with a friend) = 250 MYR/3094.14 PHP each

Asakusa Yadoya Hostel on a bunk bed for a night

  • 91 MYR / 1126.27 PHP

Tokyo pocket money (includes pasalubong, food, entrance fees, trains, and blah)

-So it's up to you to budget your money if you don't wanna go shopping to save money then don't. I just have the habit of not buying a lot of stuff when I travel. I brought 2000 MYR/ 24753.16 PHP but I just spent 1600 MYR /19802.53 PHP

  • 1500 MYR /18564.87 PHP

JAPANESE FOOD - Japan is my fave place to eat - you can get ramen plus fried rice for 25 RM /300 PHP its really yummy! felt heaven! Because my fave food is Japanese food so when in Japan - it's all about food.

Total Expense

  • 3150 MYR/ 38986.22 PHP

Please Take note.

I don't recommend to buy pasalubong at Japan airport it's expensive. I know every one of you knows about this but there are some airports where you can buy pasalubong which is very cheap or just not really expensive but Japan airports are not one of them. So when you buy some souvenirs just make sure to buy them outside the airport.
